As an online interface available to the public, the Athens State University writing blog supports the mission of the university. In particular, the blog aims to “nurture the discovery and application of knowledge” and “serve transfer students” as they write for upper-level college courses and prepare for lifelong learning after college. Faculty, staff, and alumni may participate in the blog in support of the university mission. The blog provides Athens State students with an opportunity for professional development and community involvement. One goal of the blog is to display effective college-level writing produced by students of the university. A second goal is to direct the Athens State University community to useful resources on writing, with a particular emphasis on college-level writing. The blog is devoted to exploring the processes of inquiry, knowledge production, reflection, critical thinking, writing, and research—hallmarks of higher education—for the benefit of the student body.
